Fensmere Fish Farm consists of 3 main lakes and various fry ponds and breeding tanks.

JOE’S LAKE

This is the main lake which is 9 acres in size. This lake is both stream and spring fed and nestled in the wild and unspoilt Creuse area of France. It is directly fed (offline) by the pristine waters of a small tributary of the Ardour River a Category 1 trout stream and by springs. It is generally shallow with an average depth of 1-1.5m and full of natural food. This lake is the main water for bringing the fish on from C3’s onwards, however each year between 30-40 larger specimens are returned over the net to continue to grow on. These fish will be available to over 50lb in weight each year in limited numbers. These fish will need to be ordered at least a year before delivery to make sure clients/fisheries will get the very fish they have ordered.

TOP LAKE

This 1.5-acre lake is again fed by a smaller tributary of the Ardour and again its origin is just a few hundred meters above the lake. This lake is slightly deeper than the main lake with depths up to 2.8 meters it is very rich in natural foods and provides the perfect environment for the development of the C1’s and can handle these fish developing into C3’s. Often however as the growth rates are so good these fish can be graded and transferred after their 2nd summer into the main lake.

ROCKY POND

This is the smallest of the lakes at Fensmere at just under 1 acre. It is spring fed and again incredibly rich in naturals. It’s the perfect environment for the fry/pin heads to spend their first summer as due to the depth the water warms very quickly, and it provides a slightly longer initial growing season to establish the C1’s.

There are also other various breeding and holding tanks on site.
